If the Whispered World screenshots whet your appetite for more old school gameplay, and wonderful hand drawn graphics, then you're on our wavelength, and you'll be curious to know more about such an excellent, handcrafted project.

We went and asked them a few questions, the first of which was to introduce themselves... it makes for good reading on a new, interesting developer, and their upcoming projects, amongst which is the pretty Whispered World. Let's hear it from their marketing maestro, Claas Paletta.

GC: You have several intriguing projects on the horizon - can you tell us more about yourselves, Daedalic, and your company philosophy?

Daedalic Entertainment is a games publisher and developer based in Hamburg, Germany. Formed in early 2007, we have made it our objective to make games with strong narratives and striking, emotional visuals.

GC: You seem to be dedicated to old-school traditional storytelling and adventure; is that gamers' passion, or a marketing-oriented decision?

Of course, we are big fans of adventure games and RPGs of old and they inspire us to put storytelling before technical exercises. But we feel that there is an enormous market for games that tell great stories, especially among adult gamers.

GC The whispered world is, in your site's own description, an epic tale. Are you referring to the scope of the story, the duration of the game, the locations involved, or all of the above?

The story of The Whispered World takes our protagonist Sadwick to the end of his world and beyond, as he discovers this fantastic fairy-tale world and its secrets. He will undertake an epic quest to try and save it from destruction that will change him forever. So, it definitely has a very broad scope and it will keep players occupied through four very different chapters that feature a large variety of locations.

GC: Will The Whispered World feature any hybrid gameplay, or is it going to be old school point and click puzzles and storytelling? What do you think of adventure games such as The Longest Journey, and their tendency to insert action sequences in traditional point and click gameplay?

We feel that gamers want their point & click adventure games to be free of annoying minigames or frustrating action sequences, so we're concentrate on delivering engaging puzzles, a great story and convincing characters. At the same time, we try to put a new spin on adventure game puzzles with elements like Sadwick's sidekick spot who is able to learn new skills throughout the game.

GC: Which of your upcoming projects are you most excited about, and why?

A difficult question! Smiling At the moment I am very excited about our top-secret fantasy adventure/RPG that will have everyone else excited as well.

In Brief: Daedalic are old school gamers, committed to delivering high quality narrative and emotional storytelling that adult gamers can appreciate, in a classical gaming format, unsullied by the shiny action trappings of modern fashion. The Whispered World will be a massive game of epic proportions and story, and it's going to be followed up by an as yet unannounced adventure rpg. If it's as pretty as their other games, we're going to have to torture Claas for more information. We'll see them in Lipzig!
